Inventive and daring multimedia artist, designer and visionary, Alessandra Leone conjures otherworldly work that vibrates with movement, harnessing raw energy and capturing a vivid palette. Through her own works and groundbreaking collaborations, she pushes boldly into unknown worlds, translating a mixture of traditional and contemporary concepts into physical motion, dance, music and visual displays that expand human consciousness. Leone’s sleek yet experimental style skates along the line between abstract and concrete, dream and reality, digital and analog, exploring the limits of perception and experience, real and forged identity.
Born in Milan in 1983, Leone received a BS in Product Design and a MS in Communication Design. Berlin based since 2009, she has continued to do freelance work as art director and motion designer, while extending her artistry and practice to interactive media, generative design, data-driven narratives and music videos direction, through a variety of collaborations.
Leone founded in 2012 StratoFyzika, an interdisciplinary collective creating immersive, mind-altering performance experiences through a hybrid of new media, dance, and spatial soundscapes. StratoFyzika has significantly shaped Leone’s personal approach to art and technological experimentation: with the group, Leone has been researching the use of biofeedback and inertial motion sensors for the design of dynamic interactive systems capable of generating or manipulating visuals, lighting and sound.
In 2016, Leone started collaborating with cutting-edge artist Zoë Mc Pherson as director of her newest audiovisual album String Figures. The project evolved from a serie of 7 music videos into a bigger transmedia performative show, on which Leone acts as a visual curator. The music video for Inouï (and free), part of String Figures, has been screened at Film Festivals all over Europe and the United States, and has won several prizes as Best Experimental Music Video.
In 2019 Leone directed the video content for Alessandro Cortini’s World Tour 2019, that premiered at Atonal Festival Berlin.
At the beginning of 2020, she founded with Zoë Mc Pherson SFX, an audiovisual platform with a strong focus on audiovisuals. SFX is an opportunity to experiment, collaborate and build more bridges between, and for practitioners working at the intersection of different creative fields.
